We must value our unique roots
To our fellow almost-alumni: There are certain lessons from ETHS that we cannot forget. Everyone learns and changes over high school, but ETHS has given us specific skills that we could not learn anywhere else. For those lessons, we thank everyone who is a part of our Evanston community.
We’ve learned to take pride in a job well done, like a big win over New Trier. When it comes to really appreciating hard work, ETHS tops the charts. From the English Departmental Awards to the Senior Sports Banquet, we’ve learned to celebrate our successes. Although we can’t claim every victory, when we are victorious, we fully appreciate the hard work that went into the win. We are one of the last classes to experience the rush of a New Trier-Evanston game in Welsh-Ryan and there is no better feeling than a hard-earned triumph.
We’ve learned how to approach a teacher at 8 a.m. Coming from middle school, academics provided a daunting challenge. Suddenly, there was more responsibility involved with missing a day of school or falling behind on an assignment. At ETHS, we’ve learned to be self-sufficient — we know to call a friend to ask what we missed in class, or to approach a coach about how to improve our skills during the off-season.
We’ve learned what a passionate and inclusive community looks like. Over the last four years, we as a class have done over 12,000 documented hours of community service.
And most importantly, we’ve learned that every day is a great day to be a Wildkit.

Your donation will support the student journalists of the Evanstonian. We are planning a big trip to the Journalism Educators Association conference in Philadelphia in November 2023, and any support will go towards making that trip a reality. Contributions will appear as a charge from SNOSite. Donations are NOT tax-deductible.
