ETHS, District 202 host State of the Schools event

In order to share their visions for the future of Evanston/Skokie public schools, Supt. Eric Witherspoon and District 65 Supt. Paul Goren will deliver the first annual “State of the Schools” address on Jan. 29 from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the ETHS Auditorium.

The theme of the event, which is open to the public, is “Building Our Future Together.”

“Dr. Witherspoon will be sharing the mission and the goals of ETHS,” said Evangeline Semark, Director of Communications and Engagement. “He will be providing information about the status of ETHS, including data and information about awards, accomplishments and recognitions. He will also be discussing the challenges we have, the work we are doing and the vision we have for the future of our district.”

The event, which will also feature a speech by a graduate of both District 65 and District 202, will be live streamed online and shown on TV. There will also be several students live tweeting the speech, and the school will post a recording of the speech online.

“The State of the Schools event will be marketed to the public through local news channels as well as on the ETHS and District 65 websites and social media channels,” said Semark. “We will share information about the event with city officials, community leaders, and organizations. Students and families in both districts will receive notice of the event through a variety of communications tools.”

“The two districts working hand-in-hand provides continuity in the educational experiences of our students; hosting a State of the Schools event with both superintendents sharing the stage is a way of communicating how we are building our future and our students’ future together,” said Witherspoon. “Educating our youth should be the top priority of our community, the biggest investment we make for the future of Evanston, so we hope many people will attend and tune in to gain a better understanding of their schools.”
