Richard Weiland
Over the past 16 years you might have seen Richard Weiland riding his bike to school in snow, rain, and sunshine, but next year that will change.
After 42 years of teaching, the last 16 at ETHS, reading specialist teacher Richard Weiland is hanging up his boots and retiring from teaching.
“I will miss the students most of all, it’s a privilege to teach them,” said Weiland. “I got to see students grow and mature and have a real influence on their lives and that is a great gift.”
Weiland started at ETHS in 2000 and in his tenure he has taught English, US History, and Freshman Humanities. During the summer Weiland will continue to be the camp director of GoodSports! a sports camp he founded, that promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Rick I’m glad to hear you’re well! How are Sally and the boys? OMG it’s been so long since i babysat. I remember stopping by to see you guys in North Evanston. I was feeding the little one (I think your second) and you told me I was feeding him too fast and I told you he’s hungry and he can feed himself. He made a mess but he fed himself.

Mr Weiland has done alot for me back in the late 1970’s that help me shape my life into who i am today. When I attended Haven Middle School I was in a program called Earn&Learn and not only did it help me to focus on my grades but also help me learn about being in the workforce by earning money. I really enjoyed the time he was in my life by teaching me many things that I probably wouldn’t experience like camping, cave exploring, repelling and climbing and many other things. I just want to say he touched my life in many ways and I thank him God bless him .
