Adrian Wilburn, Feature Editor

After a fulfilling 40 years, Leslie Wenzel is finally deciding to hang up her boots and retire.

An Evanston resident for 62 years a teacher for 40, Ms. Wenzel has done a lot for this community. At ETHS, she taught Life 1010 and played a big role in the Special Education Department. Wenzel also worked as faculty adviser for Best Buddies and sees that as one of the most important roles in her career.

“Some of my best memories as a teacher have been outside of school with students.”

Wenzel’s fondest moments as a teacher have come from the classroom and grading environment. She is very appreciative for being able to be a helping, positive force for students during her work with Best Buddies.

“During my time with Best Buddies I had opportunities to work with students on community service and recreational activities outside of school. I have been able to observe real acts of kindness.”
