ETHS set to become mask optional as of Feb. 28

As of Feb. 22, ETHS is set to transition to a mask-optional model on Monday, Feb. 28. Students and families were made aware of this change in an email addressed from Superintendent Eric Witherspoon. In ETHS’ mask-optional model, masks will no longer be required but will continue to be encouraged among staff and students to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Additionally, the email to students and families highlighted data that provides context for how ETHS is handling COVID-19 currently, citing a positivity rate of less than 0.5 percent, a 94 percent vaccination rate among students and a 95 percent vaccination rate among staff members as of Feb. 22.

The administration also announced that, as of Feb. 28, COVID-19 SHIELD testing would shift from weekly to bi-weekly, with students able to drop in weekly should they so choose. The email stated that enhanced information about changes to COVID testing will be released in the coming days.

In the email, ETHS continued to implore the community to wash their hands, stay home when experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and wear a mask when applicable.
