Each year, ETHS lets out for fall break, giving students and staff time to spend with their families, celebrating Thanksgiving and the holidays and relaxing.
For many families, Thanksgiving involves the traditional Thanksgiving meal and a celebration with family.
“On Thanksgiving, I am having my grandparents from my mom’s side over for Thanksgiving lunch, then later I am going to my aunt’s apartment downtown to be with my dad’s side of the family for dessert,” said sophomore Teddy Woodward.
During the holidays and over Thanksgiving break, students and teachers at ETHS are able to do many things they can’t normally do with their free time.
“I like to decorate for the holidays and I also like baking, especially pumpkin pie,” said Woodward.
Justin Dunn, a math teacher at ETHS said, “I like to relax, not think about work and be thankful for my family and the experiences I’ve been able to have over the past year.”
One thing many ETHS students look forward to for Thanksgiving is their siblings in college coming home for the break.
“My sister is coming back from college for Thanksgiving, and I am excited to spend time with her,” said sophomore Abby Quail.
With the winter sports season starting up, many students are unable to go on a vacation over the break.
“I can’t go on vacation because we have swim tryouts every day over break,” said Brady Smith, a sophomore on the boys swim team.
Although many people celebrate differently, the message of Thanksgiving is never forgotten.
“You get to spend Thanksgiving with your family and you can learn about the history of the holiday,” said sophomore Vanya Gojakovic. Many people feel that getting together with family is a key component of Thanksgiving.
“For my family, it’s less of a celebration, it more so gives us a reason to come together,” said Dunn.
