As the fans came through the Beardsley gym doors on Friday night, they were hoping to see an exciting volleyball game and got exactly what they asked for. Coming off a 3-set loss to Maine South last Monday, Evanston (9-15) looked to gain the momentum to defend home court and get back into the win column vs Regina Dominican (8-8) on Friday.
“I thought that our passing was perfect. Cat De Los Reyes played fantastic for us at the Libero position and made us very consistent in the first set,” reflected head coach Michael McDermott.
One of the Kits’ strengths was communication. Evanston won the first set 25-18, and the second set 25-13. One of the many highlights of the match was senior Sofia Lindroth’s four kills. She had three in the first set and one in the second set to help the Kits win the contest and Senior Libero Cat De los Reyes had an incredible save during the second set.
“I think Cat De los Reyes stood out. I think that both our setters, Casey McDermott and Lina Houser played very consistently, kept everybody confident, and played smoothly,” said Coach McDermott.
Some more big highlights from the event were Frankie Taylor’s multiple blocks and kills which helped give Evanston seven kills during the match. Another noteworthy player from the game is senior middle hitter Gillian Colledge who had 2 kills for the game.
“I think the team played really well, but we need to work on maintaining a positive energy throughout the match,” said Coach McDermott.
The Wildkits’ next game is on Monday at Deerfield at 6:00 pm.
