For over 100 years, ETHS and New Trier football have been head-to-head rivals. With many losses and wins against the Trevians, the Wildkit Football team has another win to add to their belt after beating New Trier at the Trevians home stadium, Robert Naughton Field.
The Wildkits and Trevians had the same overall record prior to this game (1-4). The win for the Kits was a special one with great plays and drives which led to great points earned by the team. The Kits outdid the Trevs with a 80-yard drive in 8-minute that concluded with Colin Livatino’s fourth touchdown pass of the night.
Captain Dallas Amos couldn’t agree more, “I feel like last night was a well-awaited and deserved win that we needed to keep us in the game. Our offense wasn’t the best in the first drive and after that we just turned up the heat and were able to get into a rhythm. The momentum that carried from then on, allowed us to play at a high level resulting in putting away our rivals.”
Going into the New Trier game with 1 win and 4 losses didn’t give much for the Kits to work with, but their hard work in practices and the energy for the rivalry game was a motivator for the team.
Highlighting the passion of the game and overall season, Senior captain Chris Fargo stated,“With how this year’s going, the win means a lot, puts us at one and one in conference and is meaningful in the sense. We are the first team to beat them back to back since the late 90s and first team to beat them at New Trier since around 2010.”
Putting this win on their record puts the Wildkits at an overall 1-1 standing in conference. Looking ahead, the Kits have a big game at home versus Deerfield. The conference championships are still in sight for the Kits depending on the next few games coming up. There are chances for a win with Deerfield’s conference record being 2-1, with fingers crossed it’s a waiting game from here on out to see what the Kits are gonna do with the rest of their season.
