On Tuesday night, fans gathered inside Beardsley Gym for the girls basketball (3-12) game against the Glenbrook South Titans (12-5). Fresh off a loss to Stevenson on Sunday, Evanston tried to get back in the win column, but unfortunately lost 44-58. From the tip-off, Evanston seemed to lack the momentum needed to take the lead in the first quarter. Evanston struggled to rebound on both offense and defense, allowing the Titans to take an early lead, ending the first quarter 20-9.
“I thought they had a really good effort, but they gave it their best shot. Our team is still learning, but I liked that they were taking steps in the right direction,” said head coach Brittany Johnson.
In the second half, Sophomore Brielle Rosemond led the team with 15 points, and junior Kamilla Johnson brought the energy and momentum the team needed for the 3rd and 4th quarter.
“Brielle [Rosemond] played pretty well. She handled the ball pretty well for us. I also thought Camilla Johnson had really good energy and played really well. I think they showed a lot of effort, a lot of grit, and just played hard,” Johnson praised.
For Evanston’s next game, they are focusing on defense fundamentals.
“We need to do a better job at rebounding, and can’t give up so many second chance points,” remarked Johnson.
Evanston’s next game is on Friday, January 10th against Maine South at 7:00 pm.
