After a long season of hard training and competition, the Evanston Boys Swim and Dive team secured 2nd place in their sectional meet, qualifying for 8 events in the upcoming state meet and achieving many personal-best times.
The qualifying swimmers include Will Kleinschmit, Hunter Kleinschmit, Finch Shewfelt and Issac Peng as apart of the 200 Medley Relay (1:35.85); Maxton Pomykalski in the 200 Freestyle (1:44.08); Hunter Kleinschmit in the 200 Individual Medley (1:53.49 – with the ETHS sophomore record and 2nd overall); Isaac Peng in the 50 Freestyle (21.58); Finch Shewfelt in the 100 Butterfly (51.78); Jonas Nissan in the 500 Freestyle (4:46.23); Isaac Peng, Finch Shewfelt, Will Kleinschmit and Hunter Kleinschmit as apart of the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:25.48); and Maxton Pomykalski, Will Kleinschmit, Finch Shewfelt, Hunter Kleinschmit as apart of the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:12.38).
“They swam great. All swimmers we anticipated made it through [to State] and all three relays [also made it through to State]. I’m looking forward to State– we will need to be at the top of our game to make it back to finals on Saturday,” remarked Head Coach Kevin Auger.
The team is ranked 11th going into the State meet. With the momentum they have built up and the hard work they have put in, they hope to shave off even more time and qualify for finals in State and come out ranked even higher.
