The girls’ track team is coming off a strong 2024 season, with returning stars and a larger roster than usual.
“We have a really good senior class this year, and it’s one of the biggest senior classes we’ve had in quite some time,” said Head Coach Fenton Gunter. “We had a productive season last year, and we want to build on that success.”
With 10 returning seniors for their final season at ETHS, the momentum from last year and the offseason has brought excitement and high expectations for the 2025 season.
“We have a really good team energy and spirit, and I feel like everyone is there to support each other, no matter how they do individually,” said senior captain Stella Davis.
Davis hopes to foster a positive and joyful environment as a captain. She understands that it can be hard to stay motivated to run six times a week, and she wants her teammates to run with smiles on their faces.
“The team has been working hard these past few weeks, and our injuries have been minimal for our veterans,” said Gunter.
With their strong chemistry, these Kits are looking ready for anything that comes their way.
“We’re always encouraging these girls to challenge themselves, to not fear the unknown, and to push themselves further than the average person,” Gunter expressed.
With a solid coaching staff and a persistent work ethic, Gunter believes the team is primed for a strong season that will allow athletes to perform at their best.
“Our top returner is Stella Davis. She’s our most experienced athlete and the only girl returning who earned a State medal last year,” Gunter said.
Fans should also keep an eye on returners Nyel Rollins, who competed at State last season, and Esther Mueller, both of whom are expected to lead the team to even greater accomplishments in their senior season. Evanston fans can catch the Kits at their first varsity home meet on March 1, 2025.
