ETHS Girls Volleyball (3-5) showed signs of hope throughout the first set of the game on Thursday night but ended up falling behind to Prospect (3-2) in Beardsley Gym. The Kits lost in consecutive sets, 25-17 and 25-21. From the first serve, the Kits lacked the communication and movement to beat Prospects’ powerful serves and hits, especially from the Knights’ Allison Linke.
Despite the struggles of the match, there was still individual success for the Kits. Strong kills and serves came from senior libero Audrey Low, senior middle hitter Gillian Colledge, who had three kills during the game, and senior Catherine De Los Reyes, whose digs brought most of the points for the second set.
“One of our setters, Lina Hauser, also went in and served well and had some good sets,” praised varsity head coach Michael McDermott.
Beyond individual highlights, the whole team remained encouraged throughout the whole game.
“We have a positive attitude and energy about us, and I’m glad we can keep that from the beginning to the end of the match,” said McDermott.
Additionally, the Kits demonstrated a toughness they had been missing earlier in the season.
“I feel like we were very resilient today. We struggled at the beginning, because of our first home match, but I feel like we came back, and we’re able to establish some consistency.” Said McDermott.
Going forward, the Kits are refocusing on the fundamentals.
“Our goal [for the next game] is to make sure that we can, again, forget about the hard stuff that happens today and make sure we’re resetting it back to the basics – remember where I go on the court and remember to focus on my feet and remember to communicate with my teammates,” said McDermott.
The Kits’ next game is against MCC on Friday, September 6th at 5:00 pm.
